Today we are offering an amazing set of Knights Templar wear, including an ostrich feather hat in a specialty case, epaulettes, gloves and some special extras!
The Knights Templar is a fraternal order associated with the Masons, or freemasonry. This set includes a narrow bicorn hat covered in lush black velvet and adorned with a thick black and white ostrich feather, gold ribbon, and a red and gold cross on one side. The hat measures 16-5/8" in length, 7" in depth, 7" in height, with an inner circumference of 23". It fits neatly inside a special fitted carrying case that bears the Knights Templar emblem on one side. The inside of the hat bears an address label of the man it once belonged to.
Also in the case are some white cotton gloves with snaps at the wrist, and long white leather gloves meant to be worn over the cotton ones. These formal gloves are lined with red fabric. Three gold buttons adorn the outside, along with thick gold braid and a gold braid and red fabric cross. Also included are two deep red velvet epaulettes (shoulder adornments) that are trimmed with shiny gold braid and accented by a gold metal cross in the center. Finally, a stapled shut bag includes a gold coin that reads "St. Stephen's HRA Chapter No. 1, Boston Mass." on one side and "One Penny, Instituted June 1843" on the reverse. The bag also holds a paper card from a masonic lodge (not able to identify much as it is blocked by a thick red plastic chip that reads "Syria Temple 46").
Entire lot presents in very good vintage condition, with expected wear commensurate with age, use, and storage. The leather gloves have some stains/discoloration, as does one of the cotton gloves. Case has wear to edges. Please review all photos before purchasing. Hat size is unmarked. Fresh to the market!
